Congratulations to Gary Mancl our 2008-09 Ice-Out contest winner, guessing 5:23 PM on 3/23/2009.

The pallet sunk to the depths of Nepco Lake overnight between 6:30 PM Monday March 23rd and 6:30 AM Tuesday March 24th.  It had rained all day on that Monday and continued through then night.  The club had waited 10 days, anticipating a complete ice-out was close in order to retrieve the clock and determine our contest winner.

As Mother Nature would have it, the temperatures plunged below freezing again.  The boat began to float lower in the water and drew some concern from our members.  The ice was to think to remove the boat. However, we were still able to retrieve the pallet.

When the pallet was pulled to the surface, the clock was stopped and read 10:20:07.  As we know the pallet fell through over night; the official Ice-Out date and time is is 10:20:07 PM on March 23, 2009.

During the contest there were 983 tickets sold.  The club has decided to award a prize of $500 to this year’s contest winner. Two individuals submitted tickets with eligible guesses between 6:30PM and 6:30 AM. Gary Mancl of Wisconsin Rapids, with 5:23 PM on 3/23/09  and Maggie Muliski also of Wisconsin Rapids with 3:13 AM 3/24/09.

The rules of the contest stated the winner would be the closest guess without going over.  Congratulations to Gary Mancl our 2008-09 Ice-Out contest winner.  The prize will be presented to Gary at an upcoming meeting.

IceOut Boat ProfileWe have extended the deadline to purchase your ice-out raffle tickets to Sunday, March 22nd.  For tickets you can call on Bardole Wolfe, Brostrom Kickert Chevrolet, or Wisconsin Valley Concrete, call Josh Schoenick at (715) 421-5328, or click here to print your raffle tickets online.

The contest is to guess when the ice will go out East of the Lake Nepco Bridge.

Participants will guess the day, the hour and the minute. The individual guessing the closest without going over will win this 50/50 raffle. If more than one individual guesses the correct date, hour and minute, the 50/50 pot will be split equally.

Tethered to the front of the boat is a pallet holding two 40-pound cinder blocks and a battery operated clock. When the pallet submerses below the ice the clock will stop. The date the pallet completely submerses, combined with the time reading on the clock will determine our winner.
