WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. – The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded $2,500 to the Wisconsin Rapids Kiwanis Club to help fund the Kiwanis Youth Outdoors Day.

Club President Keith Johnson and Senior Resource Forester Todd Watson
The Wisconsin Rapids Kiwanis Club has sponsored a Youth Outdoors Day the past two years in an effort to prevent childhood obesity and diabetes, while at the same time increasing interest in heritage sporting activities in the area. Youth Outdoors Day is a free event for children to participate in different outdoor sports and activities including fly fishing, archery, canoeing, rock climbing and much more. This year the event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m on June 6.
“Today’s children are spending less time outdoors and interacting with our natural world,” said Joshua Schoenick, secretary and past president of the Kiwanis Club. “We are very appreciative of the Plum Creek Foundation for helping us sponsor activities like this that encourage children to lead active, healthy lifestyles and enjoy the natural beauty of their communities.”
The Wisconsin Rapids Kiwanis Club is part of the international Kiwanis volunteer organization, which works with children and communities to develop future generations of leaders. Kiwanis works to sponsor youth leadership programs, organize youth-sports programs, tutor students, build playgrounds and perform countless other projects to help children and communities.
The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves.
