Eighty-five “friends” were guests of our club on December 4. This special dinner, which has been sponsored by our club for 36 years, honors people of South Wood County who have no other Christmas outing.
The guests were treated to a Swiss steak dinner with all the trimmings, prepared by our chef, Leann Paegelow, and her helpers. Helping serve the meal was a wonderful turnout of about 15 Key Club members from Assumption and Lincoln High Schools.
Each year a number of club members pick up our guests and transport them to our clubhouse and return them to their homes. Entertainment is provided by an old time band, a visit by Santa and his helpers and a distribution of gifts.
The special evening was co-sponsored by Wood County Department of Social Services, who arranged the guest list, provided the public transportation, the entertainment and gift drawing. Jodi Knutson is the event coordinator for Wood County, and I have been privileged to chair the special holiday event for our club for a number of years.
Seeing the happiness on the faces of our guests as they say thank you to our club as they leave is a special time. It makes me feel good and it should make each of you feel proud for sponsoring this happy holiday event.
